We started our long awaited, trip to Egypt & Jordan in San Francisco on October 9th and 10th. The Fleet was in and the Blue Angeles were flying. We dropped our bags at a hotel near the airport so we'd be close for our six A.M. flight two days hence and caught BART to our downtown San Francisco hotel. After drinks and hors d'oeuvres, we had dinner a lovely little Italian restaurant near by.
Next morning we had a leisurely breakfast and headed down to meet our friend Ed at the marina for the parade of ships and the air show followed by the Blue Angeles.
The parade was great and the air show spectacular. As we watched the show the fog, as it only can in San Francisco, began to roll in. The Blue Angeles showed up right on schedule. They made one pass and went home. The show was over. Boo hoo.
On the way out we stopped for a drink at a local watering hole and just watched the thousands of disappointed spectators heading home. Since we were already in the marina we decided to just stay there for dinner even though all the restaurants were bulging with people. After a few more drinks we were seated in Scoma's, a great fish restaurant. After dinner ED drove us back to our airport hotel. Thanks you Ed!
The first airport shuttle the following morning left the hotel at three A.M. and we were on it. We grabbed a bite to eat at the airport and boarded our Delta flight to JFK where we met our good friends from Illinois, Bob & Marilyn Wilson for our continuing flight to Cairo, Egypt. I think we must have set a speed record as we arrived at JFK in just four hours and a half hours. Turned out the Wilson's arrived just after we did. We had a big lay over as our Cario flight didn't leave until later that evening.
