San Francisco/Egypt/Jordan/New York City

The world is our oyster

Our month long trip started on October 10 and was divided into four main parts. The first two days were spent in San Francisco, the next fifteen days in Egypt, then five days in Jordan, and finally ten days in Manhattan before returning home.

We had been planning a trip to Egypt for a very long time. In fact, we had it scheduled for the previous year but due to a conflict with a tour operator we cancelled out. In the years prior to that we had been apprehensive about going due to safety concerns. Mainly the 1997 Luxor Massacre put us off. It's taken Egypt all these years to rebuild their tourist industry which I believe is their number one industry. They say it has come back but not yet to the same levels as before 1997.

We're told that the Egyptian government is doing everything possible to protect the tourists and their industry. They can't afford to have another incident. By the same token though we felt that if we were ever going to get there it should be now. Muslim extremists seem to be growing in size, becoming more radical and branching out further. I'm sure these terrorists would like nothing better than have another Luxor Massacre. Yemen, a short distance from Egypt is errupting again.
