Six short weeks in France, Switzerland, & Italy

The main purpose of this trip was to rent a drive yourself boat and ride the canal's in eastern France. The canal trip was the highlight of our six week trip. Our friends, Ken and Sue met us in Paris and we rented a car and headed to Giverny and Monet Gardens, Mont St Michel, back to Paris, train to Avignon, Aubagne (visit the 'Aantons de Provence') - Cassis and the "calanques" to Cassis and back to Paris to meet up with our friends Bill and Emily. After much sightseeing we boarded the train to Saverne and a taxi to pick up our boat and meet our other friends Lynda and Ray.

Following the boat trip, Lynda and Ray headed home and we headed to Strasburg for a night and a wonderful 5 star dinner. Emily and Bill headed home leaving Sue, Ken and us to head on to Luzern, Zermott, Matterhorn, Lake Como, and Venice. After Venice we headed home.
Marne-Rhine barge cruise Traveling on the Arzviller Barge Lift is just one of many interesting sights on a Alsace Canal barge cruise. The Province of Alsace, at the eastern end of this journey, features the historic Gallo-Roman town of Saverne, a chance to sip the outstanding Rieslings of the region and the picturesque, half-timbered houses and outstanding sausage dishes of Strasbourg.
